Soldado talks about AVB
Roberto Soldado joined Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and Paulinho in a major overhaul at White Hart Lane with the departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
Gareth Bale had been masking problems at Spurs carrying the side in the second half of the season producing last minute rescue acts in both Europe and the Premier League. Soldado believes that massive change in personnel is why Spurs have struggled to fire this season.
The struggling striker has been speaking to Spanish radio station OndaCero during the international break who began by asking him about life under Andre Villas-Boas and why he left..
"It wasn't an easy start. The team had many additions. There were eight new players comparing with last season squad and the team and Villas-Boas suffered that adaptation. He did what he could but the team didn't get the results we needed.
"After that adaptation period the team has started to play much better and now we are just six points away from our goal. This month is going to be crucial because we have direct clashes to get it."
Soldado suffered himself during that transition after his £26 million move from Valencia. He has started the last two games and tucked the ball confidently into the back of the net in each game, but against Dnipro he was marginally offside.
The point though is that he tucked even that chance away clinically first time and against Cardiff again finished clinically like the quality striker he is.
The Spanish international went on to tell the radio station how grateful he is to the Spurs fans for their continued support for him during his troubles.
"It was a long expected goal for me and especially for my teammates and the fans.
"Despite been a long time without scoring the support that I have received in the social network has been amazing. Every time I touch the ball people are expecting to see the best of me and the reaction after the goal was amazing. I feel very loved here despite I haven proving anything to them.
"I still have time to change the situation. There are two months left, the most beautiful part of the season, and I hope to reach my top."
The radio station asked him about his partnership with Adebayor, who laid on the chance for him against Cardiff.
"Sherwood started with 4-4-2 and we played together. Then he moved with 4-2-3-1 and I spent some games in the bench but I've played the last two games with him and I fell fine. Adebayor makes my job much easier."
Naturally he was asked about the speculation linking him back to La Liga and Athletico Madrid but he reiterated his desire to stay at Spurs and prove buying him was not a wrong move for the club.
"I have to face the challenge with maturity. If I would experience this struggling situation at 22 year I would probably go back home one month later but not now.
"It is a positive experience for me, for my family and for the education of my children. Furthermore, I think we have a great squad and I am convinced that we still can have a good season. I am the only guilty about my situation and hopefully I will improve it."
His comments suggest the Soldado vs Lamela article had more to it than some Tottenham fans care to admit showing what a bit of maturity can do.
In January Lamela's agent tried to get him a move to Italy and the suggestion at the moment is that Franco Baldini is trying to engineer a swap deal for a high class alternative.
Things can change quickly in football though and if he can come through the language barrier, the way that Soldado is now trying to do, the he may still shime at Spurs.
