Crisis at Tottenham

It is crisis time at Tottenham once again as our centre-back dramas continue. Jan Vertonghen kindly got himself booked in the first-leg of the last 16 Europa League tie against Benfica at White Hart Lane.

Crisis at Tottenham
Spurs may have no fit centre-backs for the Benfica tie
Benfica outclassed Spurs and gave a 3-1 drubbing that could easily have been more. That yellow card put Vertonghen out of the second leg. With Vlad Chiriches not having played since he got drunk back in Romania during an international break, he has had a back injury since, Michael Dawson out for a further 5 weeks with a hamstring strain, that leaves just Younes Kaboul.

Or does it because Younes Kaboul is struggling to make the game, we could end up with Zeki Fryers and a development player or Sandro playing there. Etienne Capoue who covered the position earlier in the season is also injured.

Kyle Walker has a groin problem which means Kyle Naughton and Danny Rose will play. The back-four will be just about the weakest back four we could possibly field and if Kaboul doesn't make it, one of the weakest we have probably ever fielded, yes even worse than when Anthony Gardner played! Don't ask me how that chap got an England cap, Iv'e no idea.

Emmanuel Adebayor who has recently had a dead leg and a gashed knee took a knock to the ankle in the North London derby so may miss the tie as well. If Adebayor is not risked then it will be interesting to see whether Tim Sherwood plays Roberto Soldado or gives him another slap in the face by playing Harry Kane.

Having scored to relieve the pressure on him, Sherwood has given him 5 minutes and 9 minutes in 3 games since which is to my mind poor man management. We will need a goalscorer if we are to have even the slightest chance as we have to score 3 goals so starting with Soldado is a must.
