Is this Spurs new keeper?
Brad Friedel is no spring chicken anymore ad when you get into your forties decline can be quick. He has been an excellent back-up for us but the end of the season will probably see the end of Brad's playing career.
Friedel may stay on the books in an emergency capacity while he completes his coaching badges but I'd expect us to be signing a new keeper this summer.
One option could be 31 year-old (32 in September) Eduardo Carvalho, an experienced international goalkeeper. The Portuguese is currently playing for Braga and Spurs have regularly had scouts watching their games.
All the talk is our interest in their 20 year-old striker Rafael Ferreira Silva dubbed 'The Portuguese Hazard' (why does everyone have to be given a moniker these days?). Sevilla tried to buy him for (€5m) an offer that was quickly dismissed.
Celtic, Zenit St Petersburg, Sporting, Benfica have all sent scouts to cast an eye over the goalscorer in addition to Spurs and Sevilla.
There is now speculation that we are also keeping tabs on Keeper Carvalho as well though. He has a contract until June so we would be able to sign him on a free transfer which would surely appeal to Daniel Levy. His wages would no be large and he must be in form because the Portuguese national goalkeeping coach turned up at Braga's last game to watch him.
Known simply as Eduardo, his full name is Eduardo dos Reis Carvalho, he has been capped 31 times by his country. He was in the Portugal squad for their recent (August and September) friendlies against Holland and Brazil.
Carvalho has had several spells where he has gone on a run of games without conceding a goal. In 2007/08 he had a spell of 11 games, in 2008/09 a spell of 15 games, 2009/10 a spell of 15 games, 2010/11 a spell of 11 games and in 2012/13 a spell of 8 games all without conceding a goal.
Defences and opposition play a part but you don't achieve those stats and represent your country if you don't have some ability.
Facing penalties he has saved 11 out of 34, a success rate of 32.35% including 3 out of 9 in a penalty shoot-out (Potuguese League Cup Final).
At 6' 2" and with international experience he may be just the man to fulfil the role previously filled by Carlo Cudicini and the current incumbent Brad Friedel.
